1. Overview
Negative Photo Scanner (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is a film negative scanning tool developed for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data is collected when you use the app, who collects it, and how it is used.
We do not operate servers. We do not collect, store, or transmit your photos or personal information. All image processing happens entirely on your device.
2. Data we collect directly
We do not collect any data directly. The app does not require an account, login, or registration. Your scanned images are saved to your device’s local photo library only and are never uploaded anywhere.
Two small text files are written to your device’s local storage to control app behaviour:
- A flag noting whether you are a returning user (to manage ad frequency)
- A timestamp recording when an ad was last shown (to enforce a 30-minute cooldown)
These files never leave your device.
3. Data collected by third-party SDKs
The app uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob is operated by Google LLC and collects data automatically when ads are displayed. This data is transmitted to Google and used for advertising purposes. We do not receive or control this data.
AdMob may collect the following on our behalf:
| Data type | Purpose | Shared with third party |
|---|---|---|
| Device or other IDs (Advertising ID) | Advertising | Yes — Google |
| Approximate location (IP-based) | Advertising | Yes — Google |
| App interactions | Advertising, Analytics | Yes — Google |
| Crash logs | App functionality | Yes — Google |
| Diagnostics | App functionality, Analytics | Yes — Google |
Google’s privacy policy applies to all data collected by AdMob and is available at: https://policies.google.com/privacy
4. Advertising and your choices
The app requests non-personalised ads only (requestNonPersonalizedAdsOnly: true). This reduces the use of personal data for ad targeting.
You can further control advertising data collection through your device settings:
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID or Opt out of Ads Personalisation
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → turn off Personalised Ads
Resetting or deleting your Advertising ID prevents AdMob from linking data to your device going forward.
5. Camera and photo library access
The app requests access to your camera and photo library solely to enable scanning and saving of film negatives. Images are:
- Processed entirely on-device using your device’s GPU
- Saved only to your local photo library (the “Negative Scans” album)
- Never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or any third party
Camera and library access is used only when you actively initiate a scan or import. We do not access your camera or photos in the background.
6. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. AdMob is configured without child-directed treatment flags. If you believe a child has been exposed to data collection through this app, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
7. Data retention
We retain no user data on any server because we collect none. The two local files described in Section 2 remain on your device until you uninstall the app. Google’s retention practices for AdMob data are governed by Google’s own privacy policy.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a revised “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
