Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s 13th through 16th seasons featured actor Danny Pino as Nick Amaro. In “The Five Hundredth Episode,” the 23rd season finale, he made a brief cameo appearance.  Many people is still wondering why Danny Pino left one of the most-watched show.

Why Danny Pino Left?

When Danny Pino left, it was because he wanted to try new things and because the producers thought Nick Amaro had reached the end of his rope. Executive producer Warren Leight said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly after Pino’s final episode as an episode regular that he and his team felt it was a good place to wrap off Amaro’s tale because of all the issues he’d faced over the years. Leight described Amaro’s character as “at a genuine dead end” with the NYPD.

In the same interview, Leight said, “If we’re lucky, we’ll get to see Danny again next year.” — a reference to the character’s reappearance. SVU’s 500th episode featured a cameo by Pino. As a bonus, fans were given a glimpse of a more stable and happier Nick, who was content with his new job and relationship. Having returned to reopen an old case, it’s probable Amaro will make additional appearances in the future as a crime-solver.
